Path of Perspectives, Nordkette

"Don't think, look!"

The "Perspektivenweg" (Path of Perspectives) is a 2.8-kilometre panoramic trail on the Nordkette near Innsbruck, designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta. At ten stations, architectural interventions such as platforms and benches invite visitors to pause and reflect. The constructions feature quotes by Ludwig Wittgenstein, selected by philosopher and Wittgenstein scholar Alan Janik.

In Innsbruck, in 1922, a meeting took place between Ludwig Wittgenstein and Bertrand Russell, marking a turning point in their friendship. According to Ray Monk, this was the last friendly meeting between the two. The estrangement was a reflection of a deeper philosophical and personal divergence: Russell remained anchored in the analytical-scientific discourse, while Wittgenstein increasingly turned towards an existential, language-critical, and later, life-practical philosophy.
